He Ain't No Bette Midler

First, if you are in the Atlanta-metro, check out Avenue D at my old stopping ground, DSC. Go by and dance yourself silly.

Yesterday, I posted on this on the main page:

"An open question - does anyone know the where-abouts of DJ Coyote J? He was last seen (and heard) in the B'ham area. Coyote J is/was one of the first radio DJ's to play artist like the Clash on FM in the US while in San Diego. Later, he was on the air with a syndicated radio show playing indie, dark wave, dance-goth and early dance-punk in the mid- to late-'90's."

The good news, is that I proved MySpace i still good or something, as I found him on here. The bad news is, last week was his last show. I haven't caught up with him yet, but I'm hoping to this week. Maybe I'll get lucky and get him to contribute and maybe do a podcast every once in a while.

I hope to get regular podcasts up in the next few months as well.

In the meantime, Coyote J posted his last playlist, and I wanted to repost it here for everyone to enjoy.

What was Lily Allen doing?

- R&B singer Ruth Brown has died at at 78.
- Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise got married. Holmes is aging well - she looks better now than she did 10 years ago - but what the hell has she been in lately??? And I've never liked Cruise.
- So what if it is a week old. Lily Allen looks like a drunk girl at Panama City Beach here
- It seems that Girl Talk, the overly hyped mash-up DJ, is loosing some of his blogstar status. Good. We still don't get what makes this guy so popular. Hello, Jive Bunny and the Master Mixers did this 16 years ago!
- The Sugacubes reformed for a show Friday.
- Finally, I got a text about the show, but didn't make it to the Jay-Z Atlanta 5:30am show even thought I was up at 4:45am.

Universal Music Sues MySpace; LCD news

Claiming that they support illegal sharing and transfer of music and video, Universal Music is suing MySpace for $150k per transfer.

Isn't this like buying an air conditioner to stop global warming?

LCD Soundsystem will release a new album, Sound of Silver, in March.

the death of 96rock

as a native north georgian, 96rock has been an institution in atlanta since 1974. granted, i never really listened to the station as classic rock was never really my thing, but at the same time, i was sad to read that beginning tomorrow morning, 96rock is going to, um, what do you call the crappy rock that is out now? thankfully, xm and sirius are the perfect cure for that problem.

is everyone falling to something? now lady sovereign cancels a gig in l.a. due to exhaustion.

Atlanta saves Bloc Party from Panic!

Due to Bloc Party drummer Matt Tong managing to calapse a lung while in Atlanta, Bloc Party is cancelling their upcoming tour. Said tour happened to be with Panic! at the Disco. While I hope Tong has a swift recovery, I'm glad that tour isn't happening ...

You can say a lot of things about K-Fed, but you can't say he didn't have a plan all along. He's holding a sex tape with Britney worth $50mil. He says unless he gets $30mil and the kids, he's selling it. The man is dirty, but really, who didn't see this one coming? ...

For Atlanta old-schoolers, Lanierland is closing. While I never attended a show there, it was home to quite a few country superstars from days-gone-by ...

spahn and sain and pray for rain

former big-league pitcher and pitching instructor johnny sain, who with warren spahn, inspired the poem that included the line, "spahn and sain and pray for rain" passed away at 89. he was also the mentor to former brave and current baltimore pitching coach leo mazzone ...

now that everyone is on the early-90's post-punk bandwagon, what's next? third-eye blind a go-go?

if you have a change to catch the new single by popup - check it out.

The end of Rainer Maria; the beginning of the new Modest Mouse

Pitchforkmedia.com is reporting that Rainer Maria is calling it quits at the end of the year ...

Johnny Marr is now touring with Modest Mouse, so if you are in California, check out a gig on their mini-tour ...

The AJC had an decent article about the lack of minorities in country music. The story mainly focused on the lack of black country artists, but completely overlooked the lack of latin artists in the genre. With a couple of exceptions, there hasn't been a a relavent artist of either background since the early 1980's ...

If you read Idolator.com, they completely based fellow Decatur-publication, Paste Magazine. Maybe they (Idolator) should spend less time bashing publications that create original content, and more time actually creating some of their own ...

I'm glad to see Rich over at CableandTweed.com is posting on a regular basis again, he goes a good job over there ...

And in case you wonder what I've been listening to lately, here's what I've enjoyed of late: the Little Ones, the Hidden Cameras and 120 days.

Monday ... already?

Hmm, let's see. Tomorrow is electon day in the States, which will make for some enjoyable TV tomorrow night. But mainly, it means NO MORE POLITICAL ADS! Combine the money spent on political ads and pharmaceutical ads and you'd have the GNP of Canada.

If you like Lily Allen, check out this interview:

Speaking of interviews, more should hit this week. If there's someone you'd like to see interviewed, leave us a comment!

Exclusive Interview: Film School

It is always great to find a band that makes you close your eyes and sway your head ever-so-slightly when listening to their music. Especially on crisp Fall night. If you haven't already discovered Film School, may I suggest doing so. To kick start it, check out our exclusive interview with the band here

November Spawned A Monster

a few things early this morning: i still can't edit my own copy. screaming type-o on the front page (and lead story) which i can't correct until tonight. doh! also, if your browser isn't large enough (pc), the content gets shifted down. hopefully there will be an easy fix for that. i'm learning as i go on style sheets.

i'm not at cmj even thought the rest of the free music-related world is. really, who wouldn't like spending five days in new york this time of year seeing multiple shows every night? if you are there, how are things?
