Have a Fried Banana Sandwich; Thoughts on John Henderson; Goodbye Smoltz

Happy Birthday to Elvis, wherever he may be. It makes me miss Elvis Is Dead.

Speaking of sad, I'd like to take a minute to address two Atlanta-related issues that have occurred in the last couple of days.

First, I'd like to express my sympathies to the friends and family of John Henderson, who was murdered several nights ago after a break-in at The Standard. I didn't know him, but maybe of the people I knew back in the day did know him. It's a tragic event and I can only hope this leads to increased police patrols.

Second, the news today that John Smoltz is leaving the Braves to sign with the Red Sox was shocking and saddening. After 21 years with the team - as the face of the franchise - I honestly didn't think this day would come. But it did. It's been a horrible past year for Braves fans. From the sudden death of Skip Carey to the retirement of Pete Van Weiren to the numerous injuries to the inability to acquire top-line talent its as tough of a time to be a fan of the team as it has in 20 years. Good luck to Smoltz, I hope he pitches against the Braves in June an no-hits them as 51,000 people in the stands cheer him on.
