looking back (reposted blog from 01/06)
music my mom says you should dance to. seriously.
Note: This is a repost of a post from 01/15/06 that was referenced last week. Wow, I was thin in '05)
for the holidays i made my mom (who is 60 and has always lived in the rural south) a few compilation discs of the latest music i have been playing/listening to. don't be fooled, i have played her lots of artists over the years and some of her favs are the smiths, cake and iron and wine. so listen up! here are her reviews:
best dance track:
i don't want to fall in love - she wants revenge
mom: "that's the best dance song. i was in the kitchen and that song came on and i ran in the living room and started dancing around. i don't know if it's the way you and your friends dance to it, but i was just dancing away." werd.
best overall song:
wraith pinned to the mist and other games - of montreal
mom: "the music and the words are great. i just really like it. it's got such a peppy beat!" she then quoted a few lines she liked the best ...
best voice:
allison goldfrapp
number 1 - goldfrapp
mom: "is that a guy or a girl? (me: girl.) well, her voice is just amazing. it's not that its the best dance song, it's just the way her voice blends with the music. she remind me of bernidette peters."
best dance track not already meantioned:
kissing families - silversun pickups
mom: "that song is my next favorite to dance to. it's really good." then she started singing the song.
fav. nondance track:
neverending math equation - sun kil moon
mom: "it has such beautiful music and the lyrics are really complex and good."
best of the rest:
black cab - jens lekman
mom: "i also like that black cab song. it's really catchy. he has a nice voice."
